It's One Twenty A.M. and my sister in law just left.
She messed around with this fucking computer all day and all night trying to get it straightened out.
As it sits, I am currently using Windoze 7 just like it was when I first opened the lid on this thing.
Kubuntu kicked her ass even though I bought a 16 Gig Thumb drive and a package of DVD's.
She wound up installing the Ubuntu that I downloaded the other day on a "virtual machine".
Don't ask me, I have no fucking idea.
However, there is still an issue with that.
The screen says it is in full screen mode but takes up less than half of the monitor.
She says that she needs to update some VPN thing but doesn't quite know how to do that in Ubuntu.
The poor thing was exhausted so I don't blame her a bit for heading home for some shut eye.
I owe her big for this.
I'll take care of that next weekend when she comes over again.
At least I can use the damn thing again without it hanging up all the time.
It was severely fucked up and that is my fault for dicking around with it over the last couple of years.
Come to find out there is a way to boot the damn thing up and get to a screen with the option to reconfigure the computer to as bought, out of the box.
That involves I don't know what all as I was out in the garage all day but it took fucking hours to reconfigure.
In the win column for me today was getting that damn motor mount and oil change done on the wife's rig.
The motor mount made a huge difference.
It got rid of a ton of vibration and rattling plastic parts. It's actually quiet going down the road again.
After that I spent several hours reconfiguring the damn garage, it was way over due also. Jayzus what a disaster.
While I was at NAPA getting the oil and filter I took a little side trip to Harbor Freight and picked up a 10 inch sliding miter saw that does bevels and shit for $119 and tax.
I wanted the 12 incher but didn't have the dough right this minute, that one was $180 and tax.
Of course, just as I figured, I needed the 12 inch model.
I was trying to cut a real, honest to God 4X4 and the 10 inch saw isn't big enough to go clear through.
Sigh.
I managed to get it cut in two places and then had to trim some overlap with a hand saw.
Close enough for what I am doing I guess.
I am building a little work bench to put the fucking saw on....
So maybe tomorrow sometime before I go to work I will find something to post about. Right now I am beat from moving eight hundred pound tool boxes around.
Thanks fer stopping by and also for your patience.
Dammit, Dammit, DAMMIT!!
I just now remembered I was going to fix the motherfucking ground for the cable today!
DAMMIT!
I am going to have to write myself a fucking note and tape it to the bedroom door I see.
I can see the wisdom of the old saying now.
Of all the things I have lost in my lifetime, I miss my mind the most.
Shit!!

Probably Gonna Be Quiet Today
The sister in law is due to come over and wipe this computers ass shiny clean.
I have been suffering through with a corrupted Windoze system the last few days and it is frosting my balls as I type.
I did get a CD of Ubuntu burnt, finally, but it is way too complicated for me to install. I could just use the CD, it works to surf the net but I'm going to hold off messing with it.
I believe it was DrJim who suggested I get and install Kubuntu. Sounds good to me, I just got back from a trip to Wally World at two in the morning to get a fucking USB stick.
16 GigaBytes oughtta be enough room to do the trick.
I'm tellin' ya though, you can't imagine how glad I will be to be rid of this fucked operating system.
It's slower than a wish and buggy as hell.
So I imagine she will show up and demand I cease and desist while she does her magic.
I am going to go put a motor mount in the wife's car and while I am out there I am going to change the oil and flush and refill the coolant. It's that time of year and you can use this as a reminder to have yours checked.
I'm sure there will be much cursing involved so it will be just like using this computer anyway.
See ya's when it's done.

Makes Me Want To Learn The Fiddle
Or should I say fiddle around.

Pretty sweet.
I stumbled on these images completely by accident looking for something completely different but liked them so much I lifted them from some guy named Duncan at Duncan's Tumblr page.
Let me tell ya, if you or someone you know is into newer and vintage Warbirds or old WWII pictures of ships, tanks, howitzers, you name it, this guy has some real beauties.

Breaking News----- Shots Fired Two Blocks From US Capitol
Watching it on the television right now.
Apparently a woman was involved in a vehicle crash into a barrier on Pennsylvania Avenue.
There was a short chase, shots were fired, someone was hit. The car is sitting on Constitution Ave.
There will be an official propaganda presentation in ten minutes.
As usual, there is rampant speculation and very little actual fact reporting.
I gotta go to work now.

Gov. Brown signs bill to allow driving permits for people in U.S. illegally
Los Angeles Times | October 3, 2013 | 11:14 AM
California Gov. Jerry Brown today signed a bill that will allow people living in the country illegally to receive a permit to drive legally in the state.
“The rest of this country will have to stand up and take notice," Brown said at a signing ceremony on the steps of Los Angeles City Hall. "No longer are undocumented people in the shadows, they are alive and well and respected in the state of California.”
Permits issued under the law will have the notation “DP,” for driving privilege, to distinguish them from regular driver's licenses.

Why The Government "Shuts Down"
This is interesting.
Somebody was serious when they said Congress has the purse strings.
143-year-old law has Washington treading gingerly during shutdown
There is a bit more at the link.
I'll go ya one better.
When these jackasses decide to shut down the government for purely political reasons, there should be a law that would immediately freeze their bank accounts.
Tell me the bastards wouldn't be just a little more introspective and reluctant to pull this number again.

143-year-old law has Washington treading gingerly during shutdown

Administration officials now live in fear of a 19th-century law that could get them fired, penalized or even imprisoned if they make the wrong choices while the government is shut down.
The law is the Antideficiency Act, passed by Congress in 1870 (and amended several times), which prohibits the government from incurring any monetary obligation for which Congress has not appropriated funds.
In shutting down the government, most memos cite the law as the reason. The Government Accountability Office says employees who violate the Antideficiency Act may be subject to disciplinary action, suspension and even "fines, imprisonment, or both."
CNBC has learned that in several executive branch departments, high-level staff members review individual decisions about what government activities to allow for fear of running afoul of the Antideficiency Act. One White House official said he has advised his employees not to check their email or cellphones. Under the act, even volunteering for government service is expressly prohibited.
In a memo to his department employees today, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew cited the law as the reason for reduced staffing.
"For the duration of this impasse, as required by the Antideficiency Act and directed by OMB, the Department will be required to operate with only the minimal staffing level necessary to execute only certain legally exempted activities," Lew wrote.
The only exemptions to the shutdown concern "emergencies involving the safety of human life or the protection of property," according to government documents. That has meant airports and the Postal Service are open, Social Security checks get paid and federal prisons and courts will operate as normal as do most national security functions including the military and the Central Intelligence Agency. But national parks and museums are closed along with big parts of the departments of Education and Commerce

Obama Summons Congressional Leaders to White House
To emphasize the full court press being employed here, on another front they trotted out James Clapper, the head of the NIA to point his bony finger and proclaim that the shutdown is hurting National Security too. Complete with video no less.

October 2, 2013 2:14 PM EDT — The government shutdown "affects our global capability to support the military, to support diplomacy, to support our policymakers," said Director of National Intelligence James Clapper. (CBS News)
Fuck 'em.
They wanted to play hardball and here they are, whining and bitching.
Every one of the miserable motherfuckers can kiss my ass.
It ain't hurting a single one of 'em personally, it's the working man and woman who are taking it up the ass while these peacocks strut around .
Let me tell ya, the secretaries and the people who make it possible for these jack asses to strut around claiming the sky is falling are not going to forget just who is causing their pain.
It's amazing just how much trouble a few hundred thousand disgruntled employees can cause.
Obama Summons Congressional Leaders to White House
WASHINGTON — President Obama summoned the Republican and Democratic leaders of Congress to the White House for an afternoon meeting Wednesday, the second day of the government shutdown, to urge the passage of measures financing the government and increasing the nation’s borrowing limit — without add-ons like a limitation on his health-insurance law.
It was to be the first such meeting since large portions of the government were forced to close at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, when the new fiscal year began without agreement on a stopgap spending measure, known as a continuing resolution, or C.R., that would finance the government until spending levels are set for the new year.
“The president will urge the House to pass the clean C.R. to reopen the government, and call on Congress to act to raise the debt ceiling to pay the bills we have already incurred and avoid devastating consequences on our economy,” an administration official said.
Invited were Speaker John A. Boehner, Republican of Ohio; Representative Nancy Pelosi of California, the House Democratic minority leader; Senator Harry Reid of Nevada, the majority leader; and Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, the Republican leader.
The White House also mounted a full-court press on Wednesday to enlist the nation’s business leaders to pressure Congressional Republicans to agree to finance the government and increase the nation’s borrowing limit without demanding other measures in exchange.
To emphasize the full court press being employed here, on another front they trotted out James Clapper, the head of the NIA to point his bony finger and proclaim that the shutdown is hurting National Security too. Complete with video no less.

Operating System Blues
Fuck me.
I have been using Ubuntu for a while now.
It has it's quirks, some of which are quite irritating.
I have to say up front that I know just enough about computers to make me very fucking dangerous.
I have outright killed a few.
This current laptop my wife got me for christmas two years ago and I love this thing.
Windows, not so much.
So this Ubuntu deal has had a pretty steep learning curve.
I have no clue how to type commands to make it do things, hell, I looked and can't even find anywhere to even type commands in to begin with.
I use it for surfing the web mostly, downloading shit and watching youtube videos.
I fuck with it a little here and there but nothing like I had to do with Windows 7.
Hate that motherfucker almost but not quite as much as Vista.
Anyway, It said there was a buttload of updates, 198 to be exact.
Where I think I fucked up is that I just downloaded them all, like ya do in Windows.
Big fucking mistake.
I have no idea what it did but I couldn't figure out how to undo it and got pissed off and deleted it.
Every time I wanted to go to a website a little window would pop up telling me that it was a file type such and so and where would I like to put it?
?!
WTF?
It was FUBAR.
I lost all my pictures, downloads, manuals, hard to find bookmarks, the whole shebang.
Even better, now I can't figure out how to get the fucking thing situated to reinstall the cocksucker!
I have the disk,finally.
That took two fucking days, seriously, two fucking days.
It seems the downloads are so fucking huge that they won't fit on a cheapie CD anymore.
A ton of the old versions are obsolete now.
Then they are some kind of ISO file and you have to burn the image and not the files and you need to convert the fucking files with a Bittorent file which you have to download THAT and OH MY Fucking GOD is it complicated!
The last time I did this, after I had the CD, it booted up and partitioned the hard drive and loaded everything all by its self, the way it should fucking be.
This time? Oh hell no.
It's asking me questions about shit that might as well be Swahili as far as I know.
I have absolutely no fucking clue what this fucking thing is talking about and giving me multiple options to do things with an operating system install is akin to running an entire herd of very angry bulls through a fine china shop.
It is going to get permanently fucked up.
The wifes sister is supposed to come over Saturday and wipe this fucker clean, as in all of it go Bye Bye.
Windoze and all.
Time to start over.
I have the recovery discs, four of the sonsabitches.
You see, my wife knows me well.
When she got the lap top, she bought the recovery discs because she knew from the get go that I was going to fuck this thing up eventually to the point that I am at right about now.
I mean Windoze still works even though it has been bastardized by yours truly until it is a smoking pile of 1's and 0's but it still works, I just hate it.
I am currently on line using the Ubuntu CD and could do this repeatedly if I really wanted to.
Naw. Spit on it and wipe it shiny clean.
The sister in law can reinstall Windoze as designed and then I will have her figure out this Linux bullshit.
Ubuntu isn't secure so I will be getting a USB memory stick with fourteen bazillion gigabites of memory and she can download a newer and more stable version of Linux and then Windoze can sit in the corner in the dark as a backup.
Like I said, Fuck Me.

Some Good News Finally
My daughters car finally passed it's emissions test.
What a colossal pain in the ass that thing has been.
First it was the front oxygen sensor.
Then it was the downstream oxygen sensor behind the catalytic converter.
Then the check engine light came on again and this time it said the catalytic converter wasn't operating "efficiently" enough.
That one really pissed me off.
Of course when I was dicking around with the fucking thing it was dark and raining like a cow pissing on a flat rock.
I took the little fucker out and hot rodded the shit out of it trying to make sure the converter got hot enough to "light off".
They have to get to a certain temperature and then they get so hot they actually do light off inside and start burning any deposits and such inside.
I have seen cars driving at night with plugged up converters that look like they have neon lights on underneath they get so hot.
I didn't really want to go fast, like I said, it was pouring rain, but I did want to work that engine hard.
There is a really long and really steep hill nearby.
The trick is that it is usually a very busy road with lots of accompanying police watching for future revenue sources.
I had my scanner hooked up to it and waited until the coast was clear, came to a dead stop in the road at the bottom of the hill, put the fucker in low gear and slammed the hammer down.
It's a racy little fucker, I'll give it that.
Even though I had it locked into manual low, at about forty miles an hour and a gazillion RPM's, the fucker upshifted into second gear just before I quite crested the top.
The front tires actually broke loose and the whore slut bitch got all kinds of squirrelly.
It's a good thing no one was nearby.
After I thrashed on the sonofabitch a few more times I brought it home and checked for codes again.
This time it had a code pending, the light wasn't on yet, for the evaporative solenoid circuit.
I'm on to this horseshit right here.
I don't know how many people have had this happen to them but some clever bastard who designed the electronic codes put this in there as a gift to the automotive repair industry.
This particular code can mean two very different things.
One, the solenoid to the carbon cannister is bad or two, the much more common culprit.
The fucking gas cap isn't tight.
How many people have had to pay a dealer a hundred bucks because the check engine light is on and they don't have a clue, they panic, go to a dealer, the mechanic scans for codes, sees this one and opens the little door and tightens the gas cap.
So after I tightened that up, I went on another thrash run.
No light, no codes.
I tell her to take it to get tested BUT, if that fucking light comes on, call me.
The place ain't open on Monday so last night, bigger than shit, I get a text message.
The light is on again.
Bring it over today.
Again with the code for the evap solenoid.
I asked her if she stopped and got gas.
Yes.
Tighten the cap, erase the code, kiss her on the head and send her on her way.
Twenty minutes later, I get another text.
It passed.
Fuck you, ya miserable fucking bastards.
I WIN!!
She will be getting a new gas cap shortly but I can cross that miserable sonofabitch off my list.

The Stench Of Fear
This cracks my ass up, what a bunch of ass covering weinies.
CNN pulls plug on Hillary Clinton documentary after director backs out
Too many skeletons in all those closets.
I'm sure there are several hundred politicians of a certain stripe who would shit their britches if Hillary ever made it back into the Oval Office.
Can you say Whitewater?
Not to mention some chick named Monica who certainly caused no end of heartburn, what with all that impeachment business and the millions of resulting embarrassing jokes.
It doesn't surprise me one bit that no one would even consider putting their names on a list of contributors for that documentary.
I'm sure Hillary is familiar with the old cut and paste feature on a computer.
That would make it easy to come up with a political hit list.
CNN pulls plug on Hillary Clinton documentary after director backs out
CNN Films has canceled plans to produce a documentary about former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, putting an end to a project that had sparked considerable political controversy.
In a lengthy piece published on the Huffington Post Web site Monday morning, Charles Ferguson, who was slated to direct the project, explained that he felt compelled to shelve it over opposition to the idea from both Clinton allies and opponents, which triggered a widespread lack of cooperation among potential interviewees.
"When I approached people for interviews, I discovered that nobody, and I mean nobody, was interested in helping me make this film," writes Ferguson. "Not Democrats, not Republicans — and certainly nobody who works with the Clintons, wants access to the Clintons, or dreams of a position in a Hillary Clinton administration."
Too many skeletons in all those closets.
