Horrifying Gun Lubrication Failure Test

Watch the video over at The Firearm Blog and take this info to heart. You are paying good money to protect your precious investments and some of you might as well be pissing into the wind for your troubles.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and rust and corrosion are my number one enemy because of the dampness around here.

This picture is my worst nightmare come true.

I have been using Remoil and that practice is going to come to a screeching halt.

THing is, this test is WAY beyond the boundaries of what any of the CLPs is designed for.

Cosmoline would likely fail this test.

The efficacy was harsh for dramatic effect for sure but it is still enlightening to see how these products hold up under severe conditions. Conditions that we may not think to be harsh that actually are.
Like in my damp assed garage during most of the year.
I freaked out when I found rust on a rifle I had gotten after my Dad passed away that I had cleaned and lubricated only three months ago, using the Rem oil.

I'm thinking about getting an old refrigerator and putting a small watt bulb in it like they do for welding rod to keep the humidity out, it's that bad around here.

Go to your local West Marine store, and pick up a can of "Corrosion Block". It works quite well and was designed for use around the marine world. I've been using it for over ten years and has served me well.
