Love them mater sammiches! Two things I dread: Last ripe tomato off my vines and the end of college football season. Keep telling the truth!

I drove a mater truck from the fields on the sea islands of SC to the packing shed in Charleston. I bet I ate 1000 sandwiches every season. And there was always a big pot of tomato, okra & corn with rice at the shed. This was before the Mexicans were picking. Picked my share too.

No tomatoes, but a baloney sandwich with a slice of Velveeta and some mustard washed down with a Mason jar of iced tea is my childhood staple.

The bread has to be handmade with a crust
The tomato, a Vine ripened in the Sun heritage type
The bread will be Buttered with real butter
White pepper and iodized salt.
a Bottle of Suds after a mornings work in the heat
I might try a mayonnaise though
