I miss the days when you could identify a vehicle simply by looking at it. Styling was once a thing.

Back in the day, I had trouble identifying a make, now since they Now, since they all look like a well bar of soap from a windy bathtub,, I generally report incandescent (old) or LED ( newer) tail lites. Colors were designed by committees of girls, And with the variety of street lights, I generally go with light, medium, dark(maybe black). I pretty much have the sedan, SUV, van, pick up thing worked out. Doors? Yes, unless they losded on my side, The Dispatcher usually giggles.

The patrol Officers are smart enough to not get worried about little details. Years ago, I was stopped while riding in my orange VW squareback. He was following up on a report of several people on a red foreign sports car. He recorded my name, license number and hurried off. The working cops and the Dispatcher know that the detail don't mean squat. With a mixture of LED, low pressure sodium (yellow+white), mercury arc( purple-ish) colors don't mean much. LED lamps tend the throw a lot of UV-A ( our "pink" flowers (daylight) look blue with LED lighting). Even auto make and type don't mean much. When does a small station wagon (squareback) become a miniSUV? Any use of make and model assumes that the officer will know what that means. Since they all look alike, the details don't usually matter. That is why manufacturers spend so much effort on tiny details that only the owner might notice. Mostly, they all look alike. That is why the background in the advert or the stylish young thing perched on the fender are so important.

They can deal with the report of a light colored sedan with a broken left tail light lens and "out of state" plates (by color). They don't care if it is a Ford, Chevy, or Plymouth, even if you think you know. And nowadays, you probably can't tell.

Ill because of Gooberment "CAFE" standards.
"Must meet "x" specs within "y" years, OR ELSE!".

Takes away the automakers creativity, hence we end up with cookie cutter cars.
