I Have Not yet Begun To Fight

My good friend Irish just let me know that he is putting out the word about my Blogging troubles.

It has the symptoms of being a DDOS attack but who knows.

About all I know about computers and their systems is enough to push the button to turn the damn thing on.

So, if anybody out of the goodness of their hearts wants to try and help me out here, you just need to keep in mind that anything you try to communicate to me about computers is going to have to be presented as if I am a retarded five year old.

I mean I'm not  really completely ignorant but if you start throwing technical jargon at me you are going to be getting a deer in the headlights response more than likely.

That being said, I have to go to work right now but I will have my phone with me and can keep tabs on what is going on here and at the other place.

I figure it's just a matter of time before the root cause us figured out and a way to get around it implemented.

I would like to take a moment to very sincerely thank everyone for their concern, patience and your willingness to put up with this bullshit.

I'm not done by any stretch of the imagination.

It's not like I'm freaking out about any of this it's more of a inconvenience and a pain in the ass. E ventually we'll win it's a matter of time.

Thanks Zack.
Unfortunately I don't have access to the server.

Hey Phil, Zack makes a good point. I don't think it's a DDOS attack, I think there might be an error in your .htaccess file. You don't need to access the server per se, just your own wordpress dashboard, to check on it. Can you still get into your dashboard?

You don't need to change anything, just see if you can find the file, and see if the "date modified" field next to it shows that it was modified earlier today, right around the time you started having problems, (which ain't normal at all. If so, collect and save your evidence of a possible hacker, one much smarter than those fucking trolls), then let wordpress generate a fresh copy of the file for you.

Rather than writing out the instructions, I just did a quick search and found a short video and the first half of it explains the procedure. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pT2qWEbLFY I'm not endorsing these folks, just found them and noticed that their explanation is reasonably clear and straightforward, not too much jargon.

One modification though, do not delete the old file as the video suggests, instead rename it, so you can save the contents. One reason is so you can later get someone to help you check for any configuration details that wordpress doesn't automatically generate and add them back in after the fact. You can limp along on a fresh copy for a few days but you're going to want those configurations added back in. (No doubt Cederq can easily cut and paste those changes back in for you. Plenty of online tutorials on how to read the script and see if any of it is worth keeping.)

Hope that helps brother.

I appreciate the help.
Right now I can't even access the dashboard, I keep getting that 403 error.
I just spent some time over at Mike's Cold Fury and found a link to his hosting company. I sent them a message about this and opened up a ticket. I have no idea if they will help me on this because Mike is the actual customer.
I am waiting for some kind of reply.

Sorry to hear that you can't get in, Phil. I can't help you get in because I don't know how Mike configured things. Well, it's a long shot but one thing you might try is to go to Mike's page and just see if you can log in there through his portal and then navigate to your own dashboard from his. Prolly not but it's worth a shot anyway.

Really miss your presence on the internet. Wish I could help but my internet skills all involve impact therapy followed by clean up. Hang in there we all want you back in the game. have you checked for an errant 10 mm someplace in there.

I was kinda shocked this earlier this morning when I got that 403 Forbiden response. I'm sure that between you, Mike and Cederq you'll get this sorted soon. I'm rootin for ya.
