I don't know if there is even a precedent for this move.
U.S. Patent Office moves to cancel Washington Redskins' trademark registration
Los Angeles Times | June 18, 2014 | 8:12 AM
The Washington Redskins nickname is “disparaging of Native Americans” and the team's federal trademarks for the name must be canceled, the U.S. Patent Office ruled today.
However, the team won’t immediately lose trademark protection and is allowed to retain it during an appeal.
If upheld, the decision by the office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board would mean that the team can continue to use the Redskins name, but would lose much of its ability to protect its financial interests.
The ruling comes after efforts by Native American groups to force a name change have recently gained momentum. Redskins owner Daniel Snyder has refused to change the name.
They are going after the money now.
There are some low life cocksuckers that walk among us that apparently need a fucking hobby to occupy their time.
Before anyone gets their panties in a twist and points out that the suit was brought by five Indians I want you to know that I have Indian blood. My Maternal Grandfather actually had to live on a reservation as a child and his mother was a full blooded Cherokee Indian.
I have seen his BIA identification number and I have seen her picture.
My Father's side of the family is 100% Irish.
You do not see me sniveling and whining to the folks at Notre Dame about their "Fighting Irish" moniker or any other fucking thing that disparages the Irish.
Grow the fuck up you thin skinned sonsabitches.

Well, they better go after every restaurant that serves those damned offensive red skinned potatoes too. Then, they better go after everyone who serves White Macadamia Nut cookies because that pisses me off and I'm offended.... God damn it man... Don't these fucks have more important shit to worry about?
I for one have just about had it with Political Correctness.
Any day now I am going to start calling a Spade a Fucking Spade. I don't think I am the only one that feels this way.

Agreed - to much freaking ado about nuthin' . . . how about the Washington Palefaces ? I guess Cleveland Indians are already taking down the logos.
Plenty of precedent ... Section 2(a) of the Lanham Act forbids the registration of immoral or scandalous matter. Which arguably is an evolving standard in society - and subject to immense political manipulation.
The Washington Redskins debate was even an exercise in a law textbook on intellectual property in the trademark section ... designed to allow for argument either way, a weighing of the arguments. It's a shame the PTO allows itself to be manipulated by the politicians this way.
