Two Weeks,No Smoke

And I still want to kill something half the time.

I have noticed that the cravings and severe urges have started to taper off though.
They aren't near as frequent nor are they quite as strong.
That doesn't mean they have gone away by any means yet.

I have also noticed that my senses of smell and taste are coming back.

It's kind of neat to be able to taste different things in the same food you have been eating over and over again.

Hard candy is my friend.
I make damn sure I have at least a handful on me before I head out anywhere and have a couple of bags of different flavors in my lunch box.

The wife went to buy smokes yesterday, she smokes these funky little cigars with filters on them, they look like cigarettes but they aren't, fifteen bucks a carton.

That means I saved some money yesterday because she was buying two cartons of Menthol's for me and now she doesn't have to.

Eventually these cravings will ease up completely.

Oh yeah, I noticed I am breathing easier too.

That's big.

Now I am waiting to start hacking up a bunch of crap.

One day at a time folks, one day at a time.

Been there my friend, I gave up Camel Filters in Spring '98. Like you, cold turkey. My wife was pregnant with our first and asked me to give it up for his sake. Surprisingly, it wasn't that hard THAT time. I had tried to quit previously and it was harder than hell. I smoked for 18 years. Funny thing was, for about the first two months, I continually reached for the lighter when I first woke up to go outside for that '1st smoke'. Habit - its a real habit.

Now, I just look at the cost of smokes and smile. They were about 60 cents a pack when I started in 1981, about 6 times that when I quit.

Keep it up (so to speak :^), you are doing it right. Just think of all the money you will saving giving this up.

Two weeks? Hey that's great. I just started today already 8;48 in the AM I have the Nicorette gum and skipped the store that sells the cheap cigs on my way to work. This is probably my 80th attempt at ending this affair with tobacco .

Do whatever it takes to quit those sonsabitches.

The withdrawals ain't no picnic but you will gradually start to feel a whole lot better without noticing it at first.

So very, very proud of you. I never smoked. At the age of 14, I helped my mom care for my great aunt in her final weeks with emphysema. It was the hardest, most brutal death I could imagine, watching her body contort as she fought for a breath. In those last few nightmare days, I remembered her, just a few months earlier, wheeling her oxygen tank outside so she could smoke.

Please soldier on, you are bigger, meaner and tougher than tobacco. You can kick it's ass.

"And I still want to kill something half the time." I followed your example..3 days without. I want to buy an old horse so I can break its ribs with a knuckle knife, stab it to death and then eat it. I believe that I am legally insane at the moment. Bwahahahaa!

If you can go three days, you're there.

It's not going to get any better for a week or so but it shouldn't get any worse either.

All I can do is root for ya guy and I am, hard. I can also tell you that two weeks does seem to be the hump.

The cravings only come once in awhile now, aren't nearly as strong as they were and can be ignored easily.

That I believe is the key. You have to be fucking determined man,you have to know that you are going to be miserable and just not give a fuck, you are going to do it anyway.

It does get better so hang in there. I can already say that I feel better, breathe easier and can actually smell other people who smoke now.

Stick with it and find something to do with your hands and buy bag after bag of hard candy.

You can do this.

Thanks Phil, I am all in. I followed your travails and when you were done I said fuck it. I am not much in the way of being a follower, but in your case you inspired me to kick a 30 yr. habit. Best to you and good luck.
