Company That Can't Import AK-47's Anymore To Build Them Here Instead.

I laughed my ass off when I saw this.

It's basically a giant Fuck You to Obama.

AK-47s: Soon to be made in USA

LAS VEGAS (CNNMoney)

An American gun company has found a way around the anti-Russia sanctions that have banned imports of the Kalashnikov assault rifle: Make them here, in the U.S.A.

The U.S.-made gun will have same name as the original: AK-47, arguably the most ubiquitous assault rifle in the world.
The gun will be made by American company RWC, which is the official importer and distributor of Kalashnikov AK-47s. The company had to stop importing the guns after the U.S. imposed sanctions in July against Russia for its role in the Ukraine crisis.
RWC said it is not permitted to have any contact with the Russian company, Kalashnikov Concern, which makes the AK-47s.
"We are not permitted to pick up the phone and to talk to them," said Thomas McCrossin, CEO of RWC, which owns the Kalashnikov USA brand. "We were forced to stop doing business with them because of the sanctions."
RWC, based in Tullytown, Pa., has the rights to the AK-47 Kalashnikov brand of guns, which has been produced in the Soviet Union after World War II.

The thing is, this company has plenty of AK's on the shelf that they bought before the sanctions and are still able to sell them until they are gone.
That's when this new ability to manufacture them here will be a smart business move.

I love it because they are sticking their middle finger right in the governments eye.

Well done sir.

Sounds to me like the Obama administration is achieving what they wanted to achieve, which is to penalize Russia for invading Ukraine. The goal wasn't to stop import of the AK-47. The Soviets spread the tooling for the AK-47 far and wide and you can import them from lots of places, the Bulgarians seem to be the best out there right now, high quality for an acceptable price. But you can't call it a Kalishnikov in America because that trademark is owned by RWC.

Note that the Bulgarian AK-47's are generally considered to be higher quality than the American ones. Just sayin'.
