I'm Seriously Leaning Towards The AK-47

Simpler, more of 'em, better knock down than the AR-15 shooting .223.
I know, it's not .556 but that simpler thing is what I keep coming back to. I hate fussy guns.

What are your thoughts?

I think this comparison sums it up for me.

If you have to punch a hole into something, make it a big one. 7.62 for me always.

I think a man should have both but an AK is a fine gun.

My preference has always been 7.62x51.

Uncle started me with that in '67 and has always been my preference over the varmint cartridge in the toy made my Mattel.

my .02

Out to 300 meters either cartridge seems to be acceptable for hurting human beings. Past 300 meters go with a heavier rifle and cartridge than either. I'd go with an AK plaform in 7.62x39. Simple, reliable, ubiquitous. If you have the money for both, that would be the best bet, that way you have something to shoot whatever ammunition you ight be able to come up with. The offerings by Century Arms for AK pattern rifles are getting pretty good and they are improving supposed deficites and making U.S. made weapons.

Phil, having owned and shot both in my experience the ar is often a bit more accurate. Not always. I had a light weight I.O inc accurate but kicked so hard it would make your shoulder bleed. Ammo is cheaper for Ak. But in most cases Ar can be changed to diff caliber by swapping uppers. 3 uppers ya can shoot 223/5.56 6.5 grendel .50 beowulf. Those 3 will cover most scenarios! But everybody has their favorites. oh you can get 7.62 x 39 upper as well.AR accuracy Ak power and cheap ammo. Just my .2 cents. But for Gods sake get something even if its a 12 ga or .22lr.Take care Bro!

OMFG!!
Dude! That's fucking hysterical!
I'm still wiping the tears of laughter off my face.

"AK-Your rifle can be used by any two bit nation’s most illiterate conscripts to fight elite forces worldwide.
AR-Your rifle is used by elite forces worldwide to fight two bit nations’ most illiterate conscripts.
MN-Your rifle has fought against itself and won every time"

Well...I don't trust the AR not to fail me when I need it the most. I love the AK for its reliability and simplicity. I carry a 1956 type 1 NM M-1 Garand as my primary weapon. If I had to carry a carbine class weapon I go with the AK. If you leave off all the do-dads people put on 'em trying to make them look like an AR, they are a really good PDW. Until the Clinton AWB you couldn't give AR-15s away, Then they got banned and SHAZAM--EVERYBODY just had to have the most evil looking black rifle they could find. They(the AR) are no better as a "rifle" right now than they were in 1954 when they first hit the market. You know WHY the government bought them in 1965? The Def. sec. (MacNamara) OWNED a large portion of the company that MADE them. Know who owns and controls M-16 production today? Why the same men who buy them for the government! They make BILLIONS in kickbacks every year from the M-16/AR-15 production line. If the military got its way and ditched the M-16/M-4/AR platform they (the pols that own/ control military production) would lose billions. The AR-15 is a turkey born of turkeys. If you want a rifle that will do the deed for the rest of your life try the LRB-M-14SA--- If you really must have an "assault rifle" try the Izhmash SAIGA in 7.62X39 or 5.45X39 converted to military mags . They are worth every penny.--- Ray

Don't worry about me my friend. I would already qualify as one of those" gun nuts with an arsenal"........

My favorite.
AK-You can put a .30″ hole through 12″ of oak, if you can hit it.
AR-You can put one hole in a paper target at 100 meters with 30 rounds.
MN-You can knock down everyone else’s target with the shock wave of your bullet going downrange.
